TOKYO — Toyota Motor said Wednesday it will temporarily suspend operations on 28 production lines at all 14 of its plants in Japan, including those of group companies, as a powerful typhoon is expected to hit a wide swath of the country in coming days.

As of Wednesday morning, Typhoon Shanshan was moving slowly toward the southern island of Kyushu. It is expected to move across the country through Monday, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency.
